So you bought yourself a Will-I Kayak Loader and have been using it happily for months and are wondering if there is any kind of maintenance required to keep it performing optimally. The answer is yes, routine maintenance will keep your loader operating correctly for a lifetime. Follow the steps outlined below to keep it tip-top
Safety
Park the vehicle on flat ground with the loader fitted but unloaded.
Visual Inspection
Check frame for dents, cracks, or bending. Inspect gas strut shaft for bends, rust, dents, or signs of leaks. If the strut is damaged or excessively rusted we recommend replacement.
Fasteners
Check all the bolts, nuts, and mounts, ensure nothing is loose or missing. Tighten as required.
Operation Check
Cycle loader fully and extend and retract and check for smooth movement, no binding and no abnormal noise.
Gas Strut Maintenance
Wipe shaft clean with cloth, remove any dirt, salt, and debris. Do not grease the shaft or use harsh cleaners.
Lubrication
Apply moly grease to:
- Pivot points
- Hinges
- Moving joints
- Cycle loader after greasing
- Wipe excess
Do not grease:
- Plastic parts
- Gas Strut Shaft
Regular Corrosion
Control Rinse with fresh water after any salt exposure
