What is the Bumper Bro keel guard used for?
It’s a sacrificial layer that protects your keel from dragging damage at launch sites, ramps and rocky banks - the guard wears so your hull doesn’t. Prevention is better than cure!
Can a Bumper Bro be used for Kayak Keel Repair?
Bumper Bro Kayak Keel Guards can also be used for kayak keel repair jobs, covering up a badly worn bow and stopping it from getting any worse. They're a great way to extend the life of your kayak and go a long way to preserving the resale value as well.
What's the difference between using a Bumper Bro and KeelEazy or Gorilla Tape?
Vinyl tape such as Gorilla Tape or KeelEazy tape is the less expensive option and it does help, however it won't last as long and only offers minimal impact absorbtion.
Bumper Bro Keel Guards cost a bit more but are made from highly durable ABS marine-safe plastic that absorbs hard impacts and provides longer-lasting protection. They do a superior job of protecting the hull.
How do you install a Bumper Bro on a kayak?
The Bumper Bro uses a plastic-safe marine adhesive for tool-free installation. No drilling is required. Instructions are included with the product. Review kayak specific documents in our installation guides vault. If you don't see your specific kayak model listed there read this install guide, which is universal.
What material is the Bumper Bro made from?
It is made from thermoformed ABS plastic. This material is abrasion resistant and reduces slipping during kayak launching or loading.
Does the Bumper Bro affect kayak performance?
No. It’s low-profile and lightweight, so it does not impact speed, tracking, stability or maneuverability on the water.
Can you install the Bumper Bro without drilling?
Yes. The Bumper Bro is installed using adhesive or double-sided tape only. It does not require screws or drilling into the kayak hull to get protected. Don't even think of trying to install a Bumper Bro with a drill. Creating holes in the hull underneath the waterline is always a bad idea.
Is the Bumper Bro a permanent part of the kayak?
No. The Bumper Bro is a sacrificial component designed to wear over time and protect the hull. Easy to to apply, so replaceable once it shows significant wear or damage.
Can I use the Bumper Bro in saltwater?
Yes. ABS plastic resists saltwater corrosion. The adhesive also bonds well in both saltwater and freshwater environments.
