The Brudder Rudder Upgrade

The rudder is built better than the factory’s supplied one. In all honesty it could be longer though. My Titan X is a big heavy kayak and I believe if the rudder was at least 3” longer it would turn better. Grant it this current rudder is beefy compared to the original but being the same size did not contribute much to the overall performance other than strength. Also its funny I wrote a inquiry and never got a response but now that I bought it you want a review or to a lack of better wording free advertising.

I haven't got it on the water yet. I just took the time to get the rudder on my boat and I was pretty disappointed. The top corner by the three holes in the rudder hits the bottom of my kayak quite a ways before it is fully retracted. Since I am in the US and didn't want to deal with trying to reach out to BP (tried that before with no help or reply to my message) I trimmed off what I needed to get the clearance necessary. I gave it two stars because it's very well made like most BP products. I also ordered a Will I Loader ten days ago and paid for express shipping and haven't seen anything for shipping on that item that was supposed to be in stock. I love BP products but when I replace my current kayak I will be looking what other options are out there.

Be aware that if you choose to use the factory steering disc, it will take more than just drilling a hole for the cord. The upgraded rudder system is wider than the disc insert point and requires a little more work to get it to fit. Ended up having to take a heat gun to the steering disc to squeeze the rudder shaft into it far enough to get the screw started.

The rudder upgrade is amazing. The new rudder has transformed the kayak, it tracks super straight and turns on a dime.

I strongly suggest this upgrade, I couldn’t go back to the stock rubber.

Purchased this rudder upgrade for my Bonafide P127. The turning response isn’t the greatest. With upgrade it made a massive improvement!! With this, steering pulley upgrade, and handle the steering is effortless. So much smoother and no more jams. This upgrade also improved tracking.

The Brudder is an awesome product. Very well made, super easy to install and performs better than the factory rudder on my Compass duo, especially when using the sail. Paired it with the BerlerPro Hobbie Compass Duo Steering handle. Very happy with both.

Strong being made of aluminium and gives me that bit of extra manoeuravbility. Highly recommend you give it a try!!

As others have said it turns on a dime, it’s solid and no more bent rudder after you install this. Speaking of installing, the whole process took less than 5 minutes. Fantastic Product.

The Brudder is a LOT better than the standard rudder for cutting through the bay chop. Tracking is awesome, the yak feels like it's glued to the water. Super impressed and very happy with he purchase.

I was fortunate to get one of the first Brudders from Berleypro. I went out and gave it road test that same day. It is brilliant. The responsive turning to get on to the fish is awesome. It far exceeds the original Hobie rudder. The turning circle is so tight and it cuts through the water with ease.
Every Compass should have one of these. The Brudder is worth every cent. Another quality Berleypro product.

The rudder is being used on a hoodoo tempest 120p that copied the rudder system from the Native. The only issue I encountered was the threaded hole in the shaft, the beginning threads were boogered up and kept trying to start crooked while test fitting the supplied bolt on the bench. Took abbout 15 munutes working it until it went in straight.I really like the ABS plastic and the aluminum shaft that eliminate the flex of the stock rudder and the drop down skeg for steering. All in all it is a very nice product and am looking forward to other borrowed Native design upgrades such as the seat risers and the rudder control upgrade.

This rudder is a great upgrade and gets your kayak turned so easy.
In combination with the steering upgrade it’s a precise machine that has nothing to do with the wobbly factory equipment.

Solved problem

Product greatly improves maneuverability of my Native 10.5. I can turn 180 degrees within about 5 ft. (Not quite a meter to the rest of the world). I can hold tight to the contours of weed lines with ease and hold a straight line next to a bulkhead in current with a wind! Unthinkable with a stock rudder.

This is a must for Slayer 10, if you feel the steering inputs are delayed and often too late, you need this. If constant tracking is a pain in the rear end, you need this. I was so unhappy with my slayer 10 coming from a Hobie outback with sailing rudder, I was about to flip it. But the rudder makes this a awesome yak again. This is a must and definitely the first upgrade I would do to a slayer 10.

I found this rudder to be far more responsive and tracks better than the original stock rudder on my Native MantaRay 12 Propel. I do not have to adjust the BerleyPro rudder near as much as I did with the stock. Not quite hands free, but a big improvement. Highly recommend this rudder. It did not look that great and I was a bit apprehensive about purchasing, but after reading other reviews I went ahead and I am glad I did. I had also upgraded the steering with the BerleyPro Native Watercraft Steering Upgrade previously and I must say combined with this rudder they have been a major improvement from the stock steering, which was disappointing when I first got the MantaRay.

Very easy to replace, gives me more directional
stability on the water .Kayak turns easier and tracks straighter which makes it a lot easier to concentrate on fishing and rigging while underway

Purchase was fine. I did not however get the float and cord shown on purchase pictures. Not yet installed.

Martyn installed the steering upgrade to my pf 10. The steering is awsome now i can turn on a dime..i also dont have to over correct anymore..10 outa 10👌

Took for eva. Sent two tension plates. Dont know if I was charged or not. Titan seat risers are good but the back one fell off no way to secure it unless I figure it out myself. Wanted to advertise on my yak with Berkley pro stickers but was ghosted on that. I dont know what to think about Berkley pro. Promised me to have by my tournament but was a week and a half late. If I wouldn't of emailed them I dont know if I would have gotten the stuff then. Anyway. I'm done.:v:
