BP265203 – UNI TRANS Guardian Installation

Follow our UNI TRANS Installation Guide for fitting the BP265203 UNI TRANS Transducer mount to Hobie® Guardian Equipped Models, including 2019+ Outback, Pro Angler 12 and Pro Angler 14 models.

What you will need:

  • Phillips Head SCrewdriver
  • Drill fitted with a 4mm (8/32) but
  • Step drill (or similar)
  • Jigsaw (or similar)

Step 1:
Unscrew the Hobie Guardian plate and retain the screws. To remove the plate from the kayak you will need to undo the cord that lifts the plate.

Step 2:
Place the UNI TRANS protective cover on the transducer and then over the Guardian plate to measure where they both sit.

Step 3:
Using a ruler, measure how far back the transducer is sitting on the Guardian plate – in this case Lowrance ACTIVE IMAGING HD 3-IN-1 Transducer is sitting 22mm (0.87″) back.

Step 4:
Using your transducers mount plate as a template, measure the distance it sits off the back. In this case it is 28mm (1.1″)

Step 5:
In this instance, the total distance from the back of the Guardian plate to the transducer mount plate is 50mm (1.96″)

Step 6:
Using a ruler, measure the distance either side of the mounting bracket to ensure the holes to be drilled will ensure the transducer will align in the centre.

Step 7:
Leaving the mounting bracket where it is and using it as a template, drill the required number of holes. In this instance it is 6.

Step 8:
Next, line the transducer up with the bracket to gauge the size of the hole required for the cable to comfortably sit flush on the Guardian plate.

Step 9:
Trace a line on the Guardian plate that is inline with the back of the cable.

Step 10:
Trace around the inside arch of the transducer mounting plate.

Step 11:
Using a Step drill or equivalent drill hole into the Guardian plate large enough to get a jigsaw blade in.

Step 12:
Using the jigsaw cut out the traced circle.

Step 13:
Thread the transducer cable up through the Guardian plate.

Step 14:
Using the supplied screws attach the transducer to the mount plate.

Step 15:
Make sure to remove the existing screws on the outer mount to allow the inner Guardian plate to move up and down.

Step 16:
Sip your beer!

Step 17:
With the cover on, drill 2 holes at the bottom using it using it as a template.

Step 18:
Fasten the bottom two screws with the supplied bolts to keep the UNI TRANS protective cover in place, then drill the top 2 screws before finally drilling and screwing in the middle screws.

Step 19:
Thread the transducer cable up through the scupper hole.

Step 20:
Tie the cord from the kayak back onto the Guardian plate’s cord with a simple double half hitch knot and place the plate back on to the kayak.

Step 21:
Using the Hobie Guardian screws from Step 1 attach it back onto the kayak.
